Anil Kapoor kept listeners entertained with anecdotes from his movies and songs.
Tumse Milke
Sugandha Mishra started off with the duet Tumse milke from Parinda, a rather violent film that starred Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit, with music by the late RD Burman. Sugandha was competent, but this romantic duet, although extremely popular in its time, is not exactly a winner.
Kuch Na Kaho
Bisakh Jyoti belted out this once immensely popular song from the patriotic film 1942 A Love Story that starred Anil Kapoor and Manisha Koirala. It is considered to be one of the finest RD Burman soundtracks. Bishakh Jyoti brought what judges termed a 'new softness' to this Kumar Sanu rendition, and was awarded the performer of the day award.
Awargi
Ranjeet Rajwada continued his single handed revival of Ghulam Ali ghazals. Awargi is one if not the most popular and well known of the lot. In fact for a long time this critic wondered why it was missing from Ranjeet's repertoire, but he made up with this latest performance.
However Ranjeet's technical limitations grow more obvious as time passes, and could prove costly if he is not careful. But his song selection has remained impeccable with a focus on quality over commercial appeal. Perhaps he could try other famous ghazal singers such as Mehdi Hassan, Talat Mahmood or Jagjit Singh.
Tashan
Kamal Khan enthralls again, this time with the title track of Tashan. For those unfamiliar with the film's history, Tashan was one of the most hyped big releases that went on to be a major commercial disappointment. Expectations were sky high from the trio of Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, all of whom sported new (and rather outlandish) looks for the big screen.
After Tashan fell flat on its face at the box office, the film's music is not often heard. That is a pity, for the soundtrack had a really good duet in Udit Narayan's Falak tak chal sath mere (performed by Abhijit Sawant in Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar, another musical realtiy show that showcased winners from various reality shows).
Saiya
Abhilasha Chillum impressed with this classically oriented number from Nayak. The original was sung with great verve by Sunidhi Chauhan.
Highlight of the Dec 3 EpisodeSugandha Mishra again won performer of the day with the highly classical More ghar aaye sajanwa from Swar Vihar. Watch it for the skilful interpolation by Sugandha Mishra of what was originally a duet by two singers with different styles.
