Hrithik Roshan is acknowledged to be Bollywood's best dancer, so his recent visit to Saregamapa was a fiesta of both song and dance.
Sunidhi Chauhan's Udi
Abhilasha Chillum tried to pack original singer Sunidhi Chauhan's phenomenal energy into the latest dance number from Guzarish. However she sounded strained and it was not exactly an energetic performance.
Nigahen
Sniti Mishra attempted a Roshan composition, Nigahen milane ko ji chahta hai from Dil hi to hai. Given that the original is by veteran singer Asha Bhonsle, this was an ambitous task but Sniti did a good job.
Na Tum Jano Na Hum
A romantic duet from Hrithik Roshan's first movie with Amisha Patel in 2000. Kaho na pyaar hai was the highest grosser that year, and the blockbuster made Hrithik Roshan a household name. However this mellifluous ballad is not exactly a showstopper, and Bishakh Jyoti did not sound exceptional.
Hrithik entertained viewers with a few dance steps from Ek pal ka jeena, a club song from Kaho na pyaar hai.
Ghulam Ali's Apni Tasveer
In what was a surprising twist to the whole episode, Ranjeet Rajwada started Dil na diya from Hrithik's sci fi blockbuster Krish but was interrupted. Apparently Ranjeet tried to please this commercial hit, but Hrithik declared there was no need to impress anyone and he should stick to his trademark ghazals.
So Ranjeet reappeared with his harmonium and returned to his forte, Ghulam Ali's ghazals. Apni tasveer ko aakhon se lagata kya hai is not as well known as the others, but nevertheless a welcome change. The Saregamapa team has once again chosen quality over commercial interests, and it has paid rich dividends.
Saawre
Kamal Khan was back in form with a Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan creation. It was truly a magical experience and ranks among his best performances.
The other contestant Sugandha Mishra delivered, an average performance with Bole chudiya. Ali Sher also attempted another of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's hits.
Highlights of the November 19 Episode
Bishakh Jyoti lapsed into bangla rock, Gautam Chattopadhyay's Prithibita from Mohiner goraguli, later adapted by Pritam for the Hindi screen. Ranjeet Rajwada delivered what judge Shekhar Rajvani called the best performance of the evening, a relatively well known but beautiful ghazal Main hawa hoon by the Hussain brothers. Kamal Khan attempted another Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan creation, Piya re but was unexceptional this time.
Abhilasha Chillumrose to the occasion with Lata Mangeshkar's Akhiyon ko rehne de from Bobby. Ali Sher was the highest vote getter, and Sniti Mishra was eliminated.
